"For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land."
The Interfaith Community PADS shelter program is a temporary emergency shelter in La Porte County. Our shelter facilities are hosted by churches in Michigan City, Indiana. Churches who have partnered with us make it possible to provide temporary shelter by donating space to the to our program. Each church also donates kitchen space for dinner service and a light breakfast. Volunteers from the community donate their time each week by serving dinner, working shifts to assist with the general functions of the shelter, etc. depending on the shelters needs. The shelter program runs solely on donations from the community.
The interfaith shelter program has been a part of our community for quite sometime and we are dedicated to not only continuing to carry the torch and serve our community with a vital resource, but also to growing our network of churches and volunteers. We are passionate about providing emergency shelter to individuals in our community who are facing the burden of homelessness.
